I am in charge of maintaining the Imagebox, an in-house digital data bank of single-frame photographs and various graphic images, numbering in 2022 over 750k images. My "clients" are my colleagues in the Infografik department, who select images from the Imagebox, or order them from a number of online stock-photo agencies. During the news broadcast, these pictures are meant to visually reinforce the „Anmoderation“, or the introduction to the (upcoming) news segment delivered by the anchorperson(s). Although the type of work I do has gradually been modified over the past 25+ years, basically I enter keywords (in German) and maintain cross-reference-links to the images which are broadcast, as well as to the "raw material“, i.e. the single-frame images used to create the ready-for-broadcast images. The job title „Micromanager“ below is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that in my capacity at RTL, I am constantly occupied with maintaining order amongst the chaos, or to be more specific, making sure the images stored can be easily found at a later date. Text-editing, cross-referencing and correcting typographical errors are all examples of the kind of constant attention to minute detail with which I am confronted.
