Represent the department to legislators, lobbyists, and legislative staff regarding the mostcomplex and sensitive issues facing the department. Testify before the Legislature. Representthe Governor’s Administration in negotiations on pending legislation. Advise the directorate,Agency, and Governor’s Office on legislative issues. Ensure legislators and staff have access torelevant departmental information. Formulate strategies for securing passage of desiredlegislative objectives or preventing passage of undesired legislation. Manage the Division ofLegislative Affairs, including review and approval of legislative bill analyses and departmentalrecommendations on legislative positions. Directly supervise a staff of seven.

Research and prepare analyses of pending legislation of interest to the Department. Preparerecommendations for the Department director, Agency, and Governor’s Office regarding positionson proposed legislation, and, where appropriate, propose amendments to address concerns.Provide briefings and technical information to legislative staff on various issues includingDepartment policies, procedures and operations. Negotiate with legislative staff, as appropriate,regarding amendments to proposed legislation of interest or concern to the Department.Research and respond to inquiries from legislative staff regarding constituent concerns. Representthe Department at legislative hearings and in meetings with legislators and staff.
