About Ted Mateja
In 2008, I ventured on an uncharted path launching into the cannabis industry, working to expand access for medical cannabis patients in Colorado; co-founding 4 of the first dispensing and cultivation operations on the western slope of Colorado (Alternative Medical Solutions in Aspen, Medicine Man, Martin’s Natural & GNS in Glenwood Springs). As an owner-operator pioneering in the medical cannabis industry I was able to experience, first hand, constant change, with respect to medical and adult-use regulation, industry demand and growth, zoning ordinances & compliance, economies of scale, and necessity to scale operational infrastructure and growth based on KPIs, and metrics within the newly regulated cannabis space. In 2016, after adult-use legalization, I decided to exit and sell my equity stake in Colorado operations, and take advantage of the opportunities and growth with respect to the future of the cannabis market as it is today. After my exit and finalizing projects in Washington and Oregon, I engendered freelance opportunities and traveled the globe further educating my understanding and knowledge of the emerging cannabis demand globally, both medical and adult-use. It wasn’t but a few months into those travels when I quickly realized the days of pioneering the cannabis industry are over, and a new chapter is upon us, The Industrialization of the Cannabis Market. Since that time I have been fortunate to have managed, advised, overseen facility development, and/or operated large-scale cannabis dispensing, cultivation (750,000 sq.ft.), and manufacturing operational licenses in 8+ states, and 5 countries throughout Europe and South America. My passion in cannabis has given me the opportunity to not only travel the world but meet great people, and learn a wide range of knowledge on different cultivation methodologies and operations around cannabis production and sales. Using this knowledge and experiences within the medical and adult-use cannabis space, have helped me achieve success in limited license procurement, cannabis business development & operations, project management, vertical integration, cultivation operations & management, operational efficiency, and GMP/cGMP facility design & operations. Travel, work experiences, and execution of responsibilities have helped me create and maintain a strong network consisting of strategic alliances with leading experts, and working relationships within the cannabis industry both domestically and abroad.
