Therefore, individuals and financial professionals must move from managing activity, products, and services to managing behavior.I rejected the traditional rational approach to financial literacy and financial planning. Why? Because I believe you need to know why your natural money Temperament™ is making you broke and how to fix it. I began my career as an advisor and agent with a traditional national financial firm. I received extensive training in our products and services, learned and mastered sales scripts, and spent hours honing my prospecting and phone skills. Over time I became that cliché “sales guy” so frequently stereotyped by the media. And I was good at it. By the end of my first year, I had built a decent business, made enough money to pay my bills, and qualified for my first sales conference. But, even though I had “survived” my first year as an advisor, I was frustrated. Something was missing. The traditional one-size-fits-all sales model I was using did not fit my personality. It was a one-dimensional product and sales-focused system devoid of what truly matters – behavior. I knew that I needed something different if I were to survive as an advisor.I could not find what I wanted, so I reached deep into my experience, education, and training and developed what would evolve into my Money Behavior System™. My life changed forever. Over the next five years, I moved to number 10 in the company, led new financial programs, built a team of advocates, and led low-performing districts to the top ten.
