O>P+P Early in my career, a professor introduced me to Gestalts field theory. It suggests that the whole of anything is greater than the sum of its parts. That has rung true for every team I’ve had the privilege of leading – what we’ve been able to achieve together has always been bigger than our individual contributions added up.I’ve found a passion for improvement and have had the opportunity to exercise it several ways…Individuals – I’m able to boast a 100% retention rate of key personnel through the ‘Great Resignation’. They say people don’t quit jobs, they quit managers and I believe that’s generally true. One of the tools I depend on to support the team surrounding me is the 1 on 1 meeting format that focuses on personal headspace, professional aspiration, and overall wellbeing of the individual. Systems – Some call it being an “intrapreneur”. I’m proud to have developed multiple service divisions from inception to full, profitable autonomy. Each division reported directly to Executives, including the CEO. The key to each success was systems – process, procedure, and clear expectations to go with delegated authority.Innovation – After creating organizational systems, most individuals become focused on their specific roles and an innovation seed needs to be planted. I’ve curated an innovation team tasked with Business Intelligence, R&D, Cyber Security, System Automation and Process Engineering. This team reported the tangible and intangible financial impacts of their efforts on a quarterly basis to ensure ROI.Performance – What gets measured gets done. I’ve enabled a wide variety of teams to reach and exceed their performance expectations by learning about their objectives and helping them recognize, then measure, KPI’s that drive results. These teams have included HR, Operations, Sales, IT and Executive Teams.Self – After spending more than 8 years as a member of Vistage, I’ve learned that there is always more to learn and new ways to grow. I value reading and podcasts for taking information in, and peer groups to share knowledge.Industry – A high tide floats all boats. I always strive to provide value to others. I’ve launched the Phoenix Chapter of the Society for Construction Solutions, joined the Boards of IFMA ITC, USIBD and the USofAZ, published articles in multiple forums, given dozens of conference presentations, webinars, and the occasional podcast. My absolute priority is my amazing wife Jill and two young kiddos who keep me focused on the most important thing of all, family.
