I am a plant ecologist with a career-long interest in the biological interactions that make ecosystems function. I am largely responsible for introducing mycorrhizal inoculation and land imprinting into standard restoration methodology in southern California. My background includes plant ecology, soil microbiology, plant physiology, soil science, nursery operation, construction practices, and installation methods. Because of this wide range of disciplines, I can effectively devise unique strategies for each restoration project. Among my accomplishments are the first large CSS project to use both mycorrhizal inoculation and land imprinting, 25 and 48-acre riparian projects that were signed off by regulators two years ahead of plan, and oversight of a 9,000-plant transplantation that was finished in 6 weeks with no construction delay. I helped establish restoration standards for a BLM field office and for a large client. During my research career I discovered one of the fundamental methods by which the endomycorrhizal symbiosis enhances nutrient uptake. I was the first plant ecologist invited to give a keynote talk at the North American Conference on Mycorrhizae. I have helped establish field nurseries, developed the mycorrhizal production program for a large native plant nursery, and helped standardized document templates and QC standards for former clients and employers.
