Ted Travis earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from Fredonia State University in New York (1976), a Master of Divinity degree from Denver Theological Seminary (1983) and received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Bakke Graduate University (2010). He has served on the boards of the Christian Community Development Association and Denver Theological Seminary. He studied voice at the Vienna Conservatory for Music, and received training as an instructor of Bobb Biehl’s Masterplanning process.In 1980 he founded Neighborhood Ministries as a community-based youth development agency. Ted has extensive experience as a church planter, teacher, preacher and leadership mentor. He has published magazines articles, wrote a chapter in the devotional book Inspired By Tozer, and is now a published author (Building Cathedrals: Urban Youth Discipleship That Works). He is also a trained vocalist who enjoys encouraging people through sacred concerts.

The mission of the Center is to equip leaders to transform at-risk youth into the emerging leaders they were created to be.

PresidentNeighborhood Ministries Jun 1980Denver ColoradoHistory: In 1980 Ted Travis launched a youth outreach ministry in the greater Five Points area of northeast Denver called Neighborhood Ministries. He was driven by a question posed by his friend and mentor John Perkins: “How do we build incentive in our youth?” Finding the answer to this question became a defining quest for Ted and Neighborhood Ministries.Gradually a new kind of youth outreach emerged. Ted and his staff pressed biblical principles and tried-in-the-trenches strategies into a distinct philosophy of youth development, called Transformational Discipleship.In 2010 Ted completed his doctoral work and graduated from Bakke Graduate University. His dissertation subject was Urban Youth Leadership Development: Animating Leadership Capacity Among Youth Native to Higher-Risk Communities. The dissertation marked the end of a quest that began three decades before, and the launch of a new mission to churches and leaders serving youth in hard places around the world.
