BOSTON – Monday, November 28, 2011 – Governor Deval Patrick today launched the Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative and released a new roadmap for manufacturing job growth in Massachusetts during an address to the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) regional meeting in Cambridge, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The manufacturing industry employs 260,000 people in Massachusetts, a 4,400 increase in employees from a year ago."Innovation has long been a signature economic strength for the US and especially for Massachusetts; witness the electrifying creativity of the innovation cluster that surrounds MIT," said Susan Hockfield, President of MIT. "But to create US jobs, we can’t just make ideas here: the products they spawn have to be made in America, too. With the Massachusetts Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative, Governor Patrick is building precisely the kind of state-level alliance – of industry, academia and government -- that can deliver a new generation of advanced manufacturing jobs for Massachusetts."

Artificial Star 3 of the Gravity Probe-B Program. Testing Einstein's Theory of Relativity.https://einstein.stanford.edu/Gravity Probe B (GP-B) is a NASA physics mission to experimentally investigate Albert Einstein's 1916 general theory of relativity—his theory of gravity. GB-B used four spherical gyroscopes and a telescope, housed in a satellite orbiting 642 km (400 mi) above the Earth, to measure in a new way, and with unprecedented accuracy, two extraordinary effects predicted by the general theory of relativity (the second effect having never before been directly measured):The geodetic effect—the amount by which the Earth warps the local spacetime in which it resides. The frame-dragging effect—the amount by which the rotating Earth drags its local spacetime around with it.The GP-B experiment tests these two effects by precisely measuring the displacement angles of the spin axes of the four gyros over the course of a year and comparing these experimental results with predictions from Einstein's theory.
