I have the privilege and pleasure of serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Oregon Tourism Commission, a position I have held since my appointment in June 1996. The Oregon Tourism Commission is the destination management organization of the State of Oregon and is responsible for statewide domestic and international brand marketing campaigns, travel trade sales efforts, public relations, interactive marketing – including social media strategies, tourism development initiatives, welcome center operations, publications, and community and niche market development strategies. From 1994 until my appointment, I served as the International Program Manager for the Oregon Tourism Commission. Prior to my statewide international marketing responsibilities, I served as the Executive Director of the Albany (Oregon) Visitors Association from 1988-1994.I believe in the power of the travel and tourism industry to create community vitality, offer solid careers, and to preserve and regenerate this amazing destination that we have the privilege to promote. I actively serve as a member of boards and commissions that influence the health of the tourism industry in Oregon and the nation. I am currently a member of the Corporation for Travel Promotion (Brand USA) and serve as their Vice-chair. I have served as National Chair of the U.S Travel Association, and a board member on the National Council of State Tourism Directors (NCSTD) and the Western States Tourism Policy Council (WSTPC). I served the U.S. Secretary of Commerce as a member of the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (USTTAB) and Chaired the USTTAB from 2012-14, aiding the Obama administration in developing America’s first National Travel and Tourism Strategy. The USTTAB is charged with advising the Secretary on government policies and programs that affect the U.S. travel and tourism industry, offering counsel on emerging issues and providing a forum for proposing solutions to industry-related problems. I also served the U.S. Secretary of Transportation on the inaugural National Advisory Committee on Travel and Tourism Infrastructure (NACTTI) from 2016-18.
