What change do we each want to see, and how can we make it happen? I want to see a more equitable world with fewer people living in poverty. Prosperity shared more broadly with opportunities for everyone to thrive. Gender equality in all things, all identities, everywhere. More joy, more compassion, more kindness, more gratitude. There are many ways to have a positive impact, from volunteering and donating to helping neighbors and the daily decisions we make that affect the environment. And businesses have a crucial role to play in ensuring that doing well is never at the expense of doing good.I believe that changing one life for the better is more important than touching a thousand, and that capitalism without constraints is a bad idea. I believe there is such a thing as the common good, and it matters. That responsibility to others and community is as important as individual rights. That in every product lives the possibility to help make the world a better place. And that profit is neither good nor bad, it’s what you do with it that matters. But if it comes at the expense of someone or some place, it’s wrong.I also believe that a livable wage is neither complicated nor infeasible, and that welcoming refugees into this country is among the best things we've ever done. Not long ago an auditor walked into our studio to announce “I’m here because your tax returns indicate Prosperity Candle is not performing to industry standards.” To this day it remains one of the nicest things anyone has ever said.
