As an executive creative director, agency principal and manager of managers and designers, I set product and service vision for the UX design group and clients of iCiDIGITAL. I set the north star for the UX of the agency; created roadmaps, processes, budgets and scaled and improved teams. I was responsible for recruiting, hiring and releasing design personnel.I was responsible for increasing revenues, engagement, brand sentiment, conversion and other KPIs in transactional/commerce, marketing and content-rich experiences. Working with client and internal stakeholders, I collaborated with the cross-team triad (UX, Engineering and Product), project management, HR and marketing to gain consensus, deliver performance and serve as an evangelist for our user-centered design practice. I further matured my iterative user-centered design process to ensure solutions were both deeply engaging and measurably effective. I hired, managed and mentored managers, UX researchers, designers, developers, writers, project leads and performance analytics specialists.Long-standing clients included United Airlines, Hyatt, Scientific Games, Ferrari, Ingersoll Rand, Sears, Association of International CPAs, and Mark Shale.Co-invented and built The Live Ads, a dynamic creative ad platform with advanced targeting, feeds, analytics and dynamic creative optimization. Campaigns were focused on key metrics; engagement, conversion, average order value, cost-per-order/cost-per-acquisition, sales and ROI. Notable clients included Sears, Harry & David, LL Bean, IHG, Marriott, Hilton and Preferred Hotels, Rosetta Stone, WNBA, GE Financial.Billups Design was sold to iCiDigital in 2015 to expand our Adobe Marketing Cloud enterprise software reach, where I remained an executive creative director and owner.

I and 3 colleagues (and soon to be good friends) created and patented MeerMeer, a visual web software testing tool that was used by digital product teams to ensure user interface and content was usable and accessible across different browsers. The product was sold to Adobe in 2007 and became Adobe BrowserLab; a core product in Adobe Creative Suite.

Learned team leadership at scale by creating strategy and managing the rapidly expanded cross-functional team (creative, product/marketing, and technology), including merging with engineering team in Hyderabad, India. Hired amazing people that have gone on to make a big impact in our industry and the world. Large software projects required considerable IA, UX and Development work. Ultimately I left to work exclusively with United Airlines.

I helped create some of the user experience processes we all use today, including work for Don Norman and Jakob Nielsen for the first online university and its UX teaching courses. I hand picked a large team of UX designers, information architects, and software developers, many of whom are at the top of the industry today. Clients included United Airlines, Motorola, SRAM, GE, Allied Van Lines, Unext (Nielsen/Norman) and Chicago Stock Exchange. Billups Design was sold and successfully transitioned to Divine Interventures in 2000 to expand our UX software design reach. I became Executive Creative Director with a larger team of UX architects, UX designers, UX researchers and front-end developers.

Managed advertising buys with agencies such as Leo Burnett, DDB, J Walter Thompson, Campbell Mithun Esty and many others in the Chicago, Dallas, and Minneapolis markets.
