About Ted Briggs
I started my working life as a firefighter and even met my wife-to-be in a firehouse. After college graduation, I pursued and enjoyed a career in procurement and supply chain management. California's 2017 wildfires changed everything for me. I watched, unable to help, my community suffer 22 deaths and the loss of 5,000 homes in 12 hours. I witnessed that same suffering and loss again in 2019 and 2020. That feeling propelled me first to volunteer as a Sonoma County Law Enforcement Chaplain, and then enlist in the California State Guard's Emergency Response Command as a Wild Land Firefighter. The more I returned to public safety, the more I realized I needed to change careers.More energized than ever, I am now pursuing a career in emergency management / public safety.HIGHLIGHTSIncident Response6 years Logistics Section Chief on Incident Management Team for North America's largest oilfield (Prudhoe Bay)Military Emergency Management Specialist (MEMS)Fire5 years as Structure Firefighter, 1 year as Wild Land Firefighter (currently serving)Law Enforcement5 years as Law Enforcement Chaplain (on-scene first responder)EMS2 years as Firefighter/EMTMilitary1 year (active duty / part time) California State GuardIn addition to years of direct public safety experience, I bring deep experience in team leadership, relationship building, coaching, and program management from my procurement career. For me, success is serving my community by:1. Building emergency response capabilities: > Organizational capability to assess, mitigate, plan, and respond to emergencies> Systems capability to build and mine risk-related data sets, and to capture and leverage real-time data during emergencies from social media> Human capability by training organizations in emergency management skills and engaging the public to become more aware and better prepared for emergencies2.
