Ted is head of Bird & Bird's Greater China offices and also co-heads Bird & Bird's Global Technology & Communications Sector Group. Our Global Technology & Communications Sector Group has over 450 lawyers with significant deep industry knowledge and expertise which we leverage for the benefit of clients in key industries including communications, software & services, devices and components, 5G connectivity solutions, blockchain applications, social media and digital content providers and data centres.Ted's practice focuses on IP protection and monetisation, from invention analysis and patent prosecution, to complex cross-border IP litigation and invalidation in Asia-Pacific managing teams of lawyers spread across China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. He also advises on personal data protection, FRAND and anti-competition issues, especially in cross-over areas of MedTech, EdTech, Smart Cities and Internet of Vehicles.Ted is qualified as a solicitor, UK and European Patent Attorney and European Trade Marks and Designs Attorney. Prior to specialising in patent litigation in Asia Pacific, Ted practiced in London for several years advising clients on global IP protection strategies before the UK patent office, the European patent office and globally via the PCT system. Ted holds a Masters degree in aeronautical engineering from Cambridge University and he frequently contributes to intellectual property publications.Ted is active within AIPPI in which organisation he holds a number of positions, being a member of the Executive Committee, a member of the Standing Committee on Patents and a delegate for Independent Members. Ted is also a standing committee member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association.Ted is currently leading a Bird & Bird team advising the Hong kong Government on reform of the Hong Kong patent law and the standing up of the new Hong Kong Patent Office.Ted speaks fluent English and Mandarin Chinese.
