My portfolio of responsibilities have increased to include a much larger share of program development and fundraising duties for Partnerships for Parks, plus staff and team mentoring, while ensuring that Catalyst continues effective collaboration and support for developing parks and open-space groups in historically underserved NYC communities.

The Catalyst Program at Partnerships for Parks is a long-term community development program, working in historically under-served NYC parks. Catalyst builds park communities, connecting people to NYC green spaces and waterfronts, increasing their capacity to sustain parks as a key component of resilient neighborhoods. Partnerships for Parks is an innovative public-private partnership program of City Parks Foundation and New York City Parks.

Ted was a Catalyst Organizer with the Catalyst Program of Partnerships for Parks in New York City. Partnerships for Parks, founded in 1995, is an innovative, private-public partnership program of City Parks Foundation & NYC Parks. Partnerships for Parks supports and champions a growing network of leaders caring and advocating for neighborhood parks and green spaces. We equip people, organizations and government with the skills and tools they need to transform these spaces into dynamic community assets.Catalyst Program: Reclaiming Our Waterfront Parks, is a multi-year initiative that works in under-served neighborhoods to galvanize support for and commitments to: physical renovations of parks; sports, arts, and education programming; local parks stewardship; and collaborative work among partners, including those between communities and municipal agencies.Ted focused his efforts on communities surrounding Kaiser and Calvert Vaux Parks, both on the western end of Coney Island Creek, in the tidal basin where the East River meets the Lower Hudson River Bay and Atlantic Ocean, an area particularly hard hit by Superstorm Sandy.

Group facilitator for numerous civic engagement projects and formats. Providing deliberate public input to policy makers and elected officials on issues ranging from Philadelphia’s government and budget priorities (cuts), public safety practices, and broadening creative public use of key Philadelphia civic spaces, among dozens of topics and projects. Project design, implementation, documentation, analysis, and reporting.Recent projects have included:* Engaged public to develop community vision to guide future development and direction of Fairmount Park, the crown jewel of Philadelphia’s park system* Facilitated community input for recommendations to enhance public use of Benjamin Parkway, Philadelphia’s Champs-Elysees, and surrounding civic spaces* Designed and led multi-stage community engagement process to facilitate community input for renovation of Philadelphia’s iconic, center city, Love Park

For the past 25 years, NCBI (the National Coalition Building Institute) has been a world leader in creating and facilitating a dynamic and inclusive process that allows participants to examine cultures, identify bias and discrimination, understand the harmful impacts of oppression, and ultimately, to become better allies for one another while building the potential for healthier communities.

We train environmental and social change leaders characterized by diversity, innovation, collaboration, and effective communications. We address the needs of emerging environmental leaders from academia, business, government and non-profits by:Providing training and learning opportunities to increase their leadership capacity through our Fellowship Program;Connecting Fellows with peers through our regional and national networks;Linking Fellows with experienced environmental leaders through substantive interactions and mentoring opportunities;Focusing attention on the need for the environmental community to develop the next generation of leaders.

Managed and implemented Gates and MacArthur foundation funded programs that bestowed Philadelphia School District’s (PSD) first academic, credit-bearing, digital badges to students in 6 high schools in conjunction with their English Language Arts (ELA) studies. Program served as key professional development method to help PSD, ELA teachers acquire new technical skills and student engagement practices.* Integrated Common Core State Standards into BPA curriculum* Created/delivered successful demonstration presentations for Gates Foundation and PSD officials that led to second wave of funding, additional 3 high schools* Created a series of online data tracking/sharing devices to improve assessment, impact and reporting.

Joined WHYY team when it launched a new website (Newsworks.org) as it expanded into new markets (Delaware and Central and South Jersey) and increased practice of hyper-localization. Work as a community dialogue specialist, connecting reporters/news with public thought.

Spiral Q exists at the intersection of community arts, civic engagement and creative activism. We operate numerous programs that engage thousands of citizens yearly. Developing/leading school and community partnerships, public engagement and arts-learning programs for local and city-wide efforts. Hiring, training and supervising teams of 10 teaching artists and 20-30 interns annually. Supporting executive director with annual marketing, communication and development campaigns. Responsible for all contracts/earned revenue programs. Leading communication campaigns for our major annual public arts and park program, The Peoplehood Parade and Pageant, including social media, e-communications and print materials. Developing/managing annual program budgets.* Directed programs for youth/adults in school and community settings, annually educating 1,000 students in sequential, project-based residencies; thousands more in assemblies, outdoor engagement workshops and other learning models. Secured programs in more than 60 schools and and 150 classrooms during tenure.* Managed or co-managed corporate/foundation relationships, site visits, proposal writing and reporting for Spiral Q’s major programs, securing more than $350K annually. SKIP: Support to Kids with Incarcerated ParentsFacilitated support groups to area children, ages 8-12, with parents in prison. Tripled local enrollment in the program, supervised the inclusion of licensed social workers (from Turning Points for Children) and BSW students (Temple) and initiated the training and support of other organizations and communities to implement the SKIP model.

Established, managed and eventually sold audio and video recording studio and event management company. Sweet Creek continues to provide both studio and remote recording, live sound production, rehearsal space, recording programs for schools, and event management/production services. Personally directed and led all event management, digital video production, social media, marketing, communications, and customer relations services.

Lead all aspects of alternative-to-incarceration program for adjudicated youth in Washington, DC. Doubled operating budget through increased grants, contracts, and corporate sponsorships. Developed summer job, internship, music, video, and selective college-prep programs.Previous: ASK Program Manager/ASK Program Site Coordinator; promoted 4 times, 1990-1993.
