After selling my company to OpenTable in 2013 I led a team of software engineers in the rewrite, rearchitecture and redesign of OpenTable Gifts, a marketplace for restaurants to sell gift cards online.

Foodspotting is a visual local guide that lets you find dishes instead of just restaurants. It's powered by Foodspotters, who can share their food photos and expertise while building a rich collection of foods and where to find them.

Get Satisfaction (a spin-off of rubyred labs) is a place where people can get the most from the products they use, and where companies are encouraged to get real with their customers.At GS I served as the sole UI Engineer on a 6 person product team. Implementing all the HTML/CSS/Javascript as well as a touching the server code when needed. I worked very closely with both designers and developers and helped shape the direction of the product features.

I joined Rubyred Labs in 2006 after moving to San Francisco (read the story here: http://jonathangrubb.blogspot.com/2006/02/8-ways-i-will-convince-ted-grubb-to.html)I was the second employee at Rubyred, hired to bring my front-end/design experience to the company. This is where I learned Ruby on Rails and discovered what working at a California startup was all about. While we strived to build our own products, we took on client work where I mostly did standards-based HTML/CSS, Javascript and some lightweight controller level integration to the server code. This was several months after Jesse James Garrett (who worked downstairs at Adaptive Path) coined the term "AJAX"; so we were doing plenty of that. By this time I had all but given up on working with Flash.Later that year we launched a ridiculous service called ValleySchwag where we sold the free stuff that companies in the valley gave away for free. That somehow sparked the idea for Get Satisfaction and we quickly stopped taking on client work and starting focusing our attention on re-imagining customer service.

I started as a technical intern at Digital Wave in 1999 while finishing up my senior year of high school. What started as an internship evolved into a full time role (employee #6) where I was encouraged to evolve my skills as a web generalist. I was the sole front-end developer for client work that included, visual design, ux design, HTML, CSS, Flash,, PHP, ASP (classic), ASP.NET and early python web framework, Zope.
