I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in software engineering and coordinate the undergraduate recruitment activities for the computer science department.

Taught introductory courses in digital logic and software engineering. Advised the student computer science club. Won awards for outstanding part time faculty and 'favorite' professor.

I've participated in planning and discussions with government organizations for several years with the institute and, after leaving the City of Austin, became a volunteer advisor.

Led or was a significant contributor to initiatives and programs for open data, intelligent infrastructure, drones and increased capacity for the city to do research with area universities including initiating and leading the work that established the master research partnership with UT-Austin. The open data program, led by my city colleague, Charles Purma, is a nationally recognized municipal program that opens up the city's data for use by residents, businesses and researchers. Working with several community partners, including the Autonomy Institute, I led the city effort to be intentional (rather than reactive) in how our city and community can position itself to absorb, regulate and use new technologies in ways that are valued by those affected by them. Working with the several internal UAS (drone) teams and their leadership, I coordinated the approval to create what will be a nation leading cross department program on drone technology, policy and use. I assisted many departments and outside entities, including our universities, in research and securing funds for that research including AI, social media, emergency response, drone and mobility research at UT-Austin as well as high performance computing, health and public safety training research at Texas State University. With colleagues, I recruited Stanford University's Public Budgeting team to create the City of Austin's community budget surveys for 2021 and 2022. And I was the Austin lead for the Obama White House Tech Hire program between 2014 and 2017 which led to expertise in creating discussions for city hiring programs with Austin area organizations including Huston Tillotson University.

Engineering:• Reduced implementation time by 3x of performance models of computer, cloud and VM systems by designing and implementing data analysis algorithms. • Further reduced implementation time by 10x in some cases by automating the creation of models as well as the evaluation of their function and performance.• By hosting Agile conference sessions and regularly participating in workshops, supported the growth of an Agile development environment for the product team. • In order to remove silos and the risk associated with narrowly held skills, instructed colleagues on the theory and implementation of modeling.Support and QA:• Reduced customer support calls that were transferred to development by 20% by fixing customer problems and training them on company products. • Was 1 of 4 employees to earn a ‘Commitment to Quality’ Award from Executive Management in a 1500 person organization for the tenacious, creative and intelligent QA-ing testing of the company’s products. • Improved communication and the priority of quality of performance, function and usability by regularly emphasizing the impact of defects during Agile stand-ups.Leadership and Management:• Led and managed engineering and support teams as the company transitioned from academic and industrial research markets to need-to-have test and production environments. • Led and demonstrated the positioning of the company technology that helped the Executive Team win $12M in VC funding. • Led a team of 25 local and off shore engineers developing enterprise software, regularly meeting content and schedule commitments• Took responsibility for management of business operations with our European and Japanese offices, eliminating the annual decline and prepared the offices for eventual dedicated management.• Facilitated transition of company management to new leadership specializing in Agile engineering processes as the CA acquisition approached.

• Measured, analyzed and predicted the performance of a new parallel server so that it could be better positioned in the market place.• Measured, visualized, debugged and tuned the cpu, memory and disk performance of the AIX and OS/2 operating systems for multi-processor servers and desktops, so that architects had feedback on the results of design changes.• Transferred performance analysis technology from Carnegie Mellon University to the IBM-Austin lab, giving fellow engineers an accessible, powerful view into the performance results of their designed. • Trained others on performance analysis and represented the team at conferences abroad to remove skill silos.
