Innovative leader and advocate for sustainable solutions; excels at bringing diverse groups to consensus and creating efficiency. I navigate complex issues, regulations, and policies to advocate for the clients, while respecting all parties. I create actionable solutions to complex issues with expertise in domestic and international environmental, energy, health, and sustainable transportation policy and regulatory matters. Currently specializing in alternative and renewable transportation fuels and alternative fuel vehicles.Having served in industry, government, and nonprofit sectors, I understand different perspectives and help bridge divides. When a plant was improperly disposing of waste on tribal lands, federal, state, and tribal regulators were irate. The company dug in its heels, creating an impasse. I intervened and developed a solution, the plant was closed and the company paid a substantial fine, but not nearly as much as was initially demanded. I lead teams to develop and execute new approaches. When a number of entities wanted to deploy refueling for alternative fuel vehicles, they were floored by the overall expense. I worked with them to find common ground. Together, they created stations that serve stakeholders and surrounding communities. I’m a highly-effective program manager. While managing one program, a vacancy created a leadership void. I stepped in and assumed another full-time job. I led both programs for a year, while achieving significant efficiencies and breakthrough compliance--from 90% to 100% consistently. Call me if you’d like to discuss your needs in advocacy, environmental and health regulatory compliance, and alternative energies. Specialties: strategic planning, program management, developing consensus, advocacy, compliance, environment, health, renewable energy and alternative fuels
Listed skills include Program Management, Sustainability, Environmental Policy, Strategic Thinking, and 16 others.

I wear many hats for NREL in support of various U.S. DOE Vehicle Technologies Office programs and the Federal Energy Management Program's Federal Fleet effort. Initially brought in to lead a DOE-mandated fleet regulatory R&D and Deployment Program, with a team of 10 subcontractor consultants involving management of alternative fuel vehicle and fuel infrastructure projects and policy work, I now also help facilitate government-industry partnerships, support energy efficient mobility systems work, transportation electrification, alternative fuels technology research, and legislative and regulatory activities, among others. I’ve earned recognition for my work within NREL, the President’s Award, and the Chairman’s Award.I immediately identified and implemented program improvements that saved 25% in operational costs and simplified the program for regulated entities. We’ve consistently achieved and maintained 100% compliance for this regulatory program, a fairly unheard of level of compliance across an entire program. At NREL, in addition to my designated responsibilities, I’ve taken on other major roles for other programs. These include: - US DRIVE Fuels Working Group - Energy Efficient Mobility Systems - Cybersecurity - Sustainable Federal Fleets - Clean Cities and Technology Integration - Low Emission Development Strategies Global Partnership - Polar ResearchI’ve maintained programs and led them to new levels of success and achievement. A consistent theme in my work is coordinating and collaborating with diverse sets of stakeholders, negotiating to achieve consensus that works for all involved, and legislative and regulatory compliance.
Represented multinational clients and smaller companies on environmental, health, and food and and drug-related causes. Applying a multi-disciplinary approach to advocacy, I led efforts to bringing sometimes-contentious new technologies and products to market, liaising with government officials to help gain the necessary approvals. This enabled my clients to establish themselves as leading manufacturers and providers of products we use daily. My work involved strategic thinking and planning, advocacy development and implementation, and significant follow through and project management to ensure success.
This position gave me an understanding of the issues and concerns industry faces with environmental regulation--especially with hazardous waste, air, and water related issues. I also engaged in natural resources and toxic substances issues.Served as the front person and advocate for Fortune 40 companies and trade associations clients who found themselves in hot water. I worked to assemble and manage teams of experts in developing and implementing strategies to help our clients navigate and negotiate themselves to firmer footing. At times, I rescued facilities from closure, saving significant sums of money in operations and potential fines. In other instances, I trained them to maintain compliant behavior and operations.
