Ted has worked with nonprofits his entire career. Born and raised in Davenport, Iowa, Ted started his career in higher education communications, working with both the enrollment management and fundraising teams at a private liberal arts school in the Midwest. He went on to lead communication and outreach efforts for a team tasked with raising more than $70 million in capital gifts and endowment for Red Cloud Indian School on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, during the worst economic recession since the Great Depression. They successfully raised the money in four years. Following the close of the campaign, Ted co-founded The Numad Group in 2011 with his best friend and business partner Matt Ehlman. Numad is a fundraising, communication, strategic planning, and program evaluation consulting firm that partners exclusively with arts, education, and immediate need-serving nonprofits across the country. As a principal at the firm, he leads all creative communications efforts. He has guided organizations through communication audits and planning, brand and messaging overhauls, media relations strategies, website redevelopment programs, capital and annual fund campaigns, and much more. He has led nearly 100 nonprofits through communication programs that have elevated the awareness of organizations, and in turn, raised millions of dollars across the country by partnering with them on how they talk about themselves, and their impact, with prospective donors. In particular, the company has partnered with many of New York City’s most notable Off-Broadway theaters, working on over 400 shows for companies including MCC Theater, Playwrights Horizons, Classic Stage Company, The New Group, WP Theater, The York Theatre Company, Primary Stages, Cherry Lane Theater, and many more. He has served as a co-producer of the annual Miscast Gala, an annual event that features Broadway and movie stars performing songs from roles in which they would not traditionally be cast. The in-person and streaming event has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. His work is as diverse as his personal interests, having also partnered at Numad with regional and statewide community foundations, food insecurity and human services nonprofits, and higher education institutions, among many others.
