Both use Storybot, our cognitive agent that allows kids to code without strict syntax or cumbersome blocks. Players build interactive stories and games for others to explore, all within a hand-drawn world that invites collaboration.

Working from a 200-page spec written by their business consultant, I developed “Casey”, a webapp that handles customer management, case data entry and confirmation, lab results, and custom reporting to both PDF and Excel. Our mission statement was, “Nice laptop. Now what?” Waveplace deployed the very first twenty production XOs for our Virgin Islands pilot, then went on to help an additional 22 schools in Haiti, Nicaragua, Africa, and Florida. Over five years, we gave away more than 1000 laptops and trained 350 teachers in the field. Our work was featured on NPR's All Things Considered.

Choosing Adobe Flex for the front end, we first analyzed the expectations of their agents, then built a Q&A system which presented options and constraints dynamically.Along with consulting on the UX and architecture, I led the development of the QDesigner metadata engine, which allows Mercer to reconfigure business lines themselves, altering questions and constraints over time.

Soon after launch, Alan’s research group hired me to form Squeakland Foundation, a spin-off organization devoted to Etoys and its community. I staffed three teams of world-wide volunteers (business, education, and software), then organized two education conferences (one in Los Angeles, one in Brazil). I also guided the development of Etoys 5 and the Squeakland content repository. -
