Facilities Support Officer - Logistics

In my role as Logistics Officer, I manage the mobilisation and demobilisation for each voyage in our home port of Hobart and at other domestic ports. At sea I act as the Voyage Manager and form part of the Senior Management Team alongside the Master and the Chief Scientist where I represent CSIRO’s interests as owner of the vessel on voyages lasting up to 8 weeks in length. In broad terms, I:• Simultaneously manage multiple, complex voyage projects through providing expert advice to Principal Investigators in developing voyage plans.• Coordinate and deliver technical and logistical support during port periods, mobilisations and demobilisations to optimise limited time frames in port and subsequent voyage requirements.• Manage voyage logistics, including packing and shipping of sensitive scientific equipment, preparation of port planning documents, chairing planning meetings and liaising with port authorities and agents.• Train and mentor Deputy Voyage Managers at sea and ashore.• Ensure duty of care for all voyage personnel through compliance with HSE and HR policies and procedures applicable to CSIRO and the vessel.• Promote effective team performance and behaviour, and manage conflict resolution through the application of policy, procedure, and appropriate strategy. • Participated in interviews and documentaries, including the Women on Board series and interviews for the Hobart Mercury, Tas Weekender, and the kid’s magazine, Scientriffic, alongside various live events.
