In my role as Logistics Officer, I manage the mobilisation and demobilisation for each voyage in our home port of Hobart and at other domestic ports. At sea I act as the Voyage Manager and form part of the Senior Management Team alongside the Master and the Chief Scientist where I represent CSIRO’s interests as owner of the vessel on voyages lasting up to 8 weeks in length. In broad terms, I:• Simultaneously manage multiple, complex voyage projects through providing expert advice to Principal Investigators in developing voyage plans.• Coordinate and deliver technical and logistical support during port periods, mobilisations and demobilisations to optimise limited time frames in port and subsequent voyage requirements.• Manage voyage logistics, including packing and shipping of sensitive scientific equipment, preparation of port planning documents, chairing planning meetings and liaising with port authorities and agents.• Train and mentor Deputy Voyage Managers at sea and ashore.• Ensure duty of care for all voyage personnel through compliance with HSE and HR policies and procedures applicable to CSIRO and the vessel.• Promote effective team performance and behaviour, and manage conflict resolution through the application of policy, procedure, and appropriate strategy. • Participated in interviews and documentaries, including the Women on Board series and interviews for the Hobart Mercury, Tas Weekender, and the kid’s magazine, Scientriffic, alongside various live events.

I have recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Adelaide where I developed a diverse range of new abilities, including:• An understanding of grapevine development, growth and nutritional requirements;• The application of viticultural management practices in a range of commercial, organic and biodynamic settings;• An understanding of how viticultural practices influence wine quality;• Knowledge of vinification techniques, including harvest, fruit processing, and alcoholic and malolactic fermentation;• An appreciation for different wine styles and the ability to evaluate the sensory profile of a wine.

I was employed with PHH ARC as a technologist where I coordinated and participated in hazardous materials surveys. This included onsite assessment, testing and abatement of asbestos containing materials from buildings and confined electrical vaults throughout the BC Province. My duties included:• Working with an electric power company to survey manhole structures and features that contained asbestos;• Conducting building inspections for asbestos containing materials at construction and demolition sites;• On site air monitoring, hazardous materials bulk sampling and report preparation;• Supervising and training new employees in hazardous materials collection, treatment, abatement and disposal in accordance with PHH ARC protocols and WorkSafe BC standards.

As a recent marine science graduate I gained a junior position as a marine and aquatic toxicologist with IRC. In my role I conducted water toxicity identification evaluations using standardized testing methods and I assisted external researchers with researching and developing methodology to sample and study marine invertebrates. My primary responsibilities included:• Manipulating the physical and chemical properties of effluent and water samples to determine their toxicity;• Processing samples, undertaking species taxonomy, performing data entry and database management; • Supervising and training an intern from the University of Victoria who joined the team for the summer to gain experience in aquatic toxicology and marine biology practices;• Developing and producing project design documents and literature reviews to tight deadlines, while being conscious of the project budget.

As a research assistant for the FAMER laboratory I worked on a collaborative project between UBC and UNSW researching marine food webs in the Tasman Sea, Australia. Here I gained valuable experience;• Processing biological samples collected aboard a CSIRO research vessel, the Southern Surveyor;• Preparing water quality, particulate organic matter, zooplankton and larval fish samples for external analysis;• Consolidating voyage data, performing statistical analysis, preparing reports and presenting findings to superiors.
