Living the literal dream…. Engineering lead on the design and construction of four simultaneous brand new datacenter facilities across the country! Collaborated with a variety of engineering, architecture, construction, security, network, and other teams, representing the operational requirements in all manner of topics and discussions from the layout of the building, equipment and processing flows, and admin office configuration, to electrical, mechanical, security, and cabling plant designs, and everything in between to ensure a comprehensive overall plan for all four buildings. Authored and presented numerous strategic, design, and operational plans at all leadership levels.

Havin' fun doin' stuff in the Data Center! Organizing the long-term strategies, designs, and engineering plans for 3 sites, collaborating with my leadership team, partners, vendors, and others to keep the doors open and everything whirring along. Mentoring bright minds young and old, and building out the future of power and space utilization plans, capacity management, run rates, forecasts, and all the engineering metrics and reports that come with it. Driving new power distribution standards, increasing densities on the floor, and challenging the mechanical engineer to keep up as we look to the future. And driving everyone nuts as usual! Recently conceptualized a plan to gain $300M in cost avoidance by creating a new electrical distribution plant over 2-3 years, I'm really excited to see it go forward in execution and benefit all of our sites! The future is upon us, DC technologies and densities are changing, and I'm excited to be up in the leadership team working on the next generation. Here's to the future!Collaborating with my team and partner/vendor teams on multiple large-scale resiliency, security, and infrastructure refresh projects over 100,000 sq ft of data hall space, as well as the design and construction of a new 25,000 sq ft, high-density facility... all the while recovering and exiting 30,000 sq ft of legacy, low-density space. And there’s more on the horizon! In addition, I am also collaborating with partners on the design, expansion, and refresh efforts in the admin, operational, and security spaces; WiFi, access control and cameras, BMS systems, mechanical and electrical plants, and all of the many support services that surround the data halls. If it's inside the fence, it's mine! Data centers are changing faster than ever. We’re doing our part to embrace the demand while balancing the ever-visible “green” initiatives. There’s some neat stuff going on in the industry, and I am proud to be a part of the strategic direction !

Doin' the stuff that I love, making history happen, and driving new direction into the IT field. Imagining creative metrics designs that meet the ever changing landscape of IT, challenging NetZoomDC and Centerscape to perform miracles of analysis, and reaching for SME status in datacenter facilities.Digging into ~950,000 RUs of space (~760,000 sq ft, ~180,000 devices, 20,000 racks) in 45 global data centers, to analyze historical trends, forecasts, and expectations, deriving statistics and information well beyond the usual mundane numbers. Challenging existing metrics for reliability, taking reports back to their foundations to find out why certain situations exist, and how to fix them, developing procedures and recommendations to address the problems, and coordinating them as they are implemented, and mentoring global peers and partners on the processes, methods, and reasons why these analyses work.Taking existing manual reporting systems and expanding them exponentially to provide significantly improved details and automation, as well as all new metrics never before seen.Heading up the enterprise tracking systems NetZoomDC, OBTAIN DCIM, and RFCode Centerscape, working all the way up to SME status and technical lead, building SOPs and philosophies of operation significantly more advanced and detailed than were available previously. (and driving the vendors nuts with "cunning plans" while doing it! :)Directly handling reporting and working with planners and site managers in all data centers to provide an enterprise-level overview, including trends, actuals, and forecast information that is directly impacting the decision to (or not to) build new centers!Writing multiple systems from scratch, including a complete, fully automated reporting engine that was universally implemented across the board to every data center, ensuring that every site is tracked and maintained with universal principles and standards.Loving every minute of it!

Breathing life and direction into this not-for-profit social organization dedicated to the awareness, education, and promotion of the Anthropomorphic and Science Fiction fandoms in the global social atmosphere. Reality is the product of dreams and hard work, and after having the dream for 5+ years, I'm putting in the hard work, to make reality happen. I am building a 2-tier structure. The inspiration comes from a little UK and a little Asian cultural business model influence, mixed with a self-created modification. My Executive tier will handle strategic business direction and the goals of the company. My Supervisory tier will be my daily do-ers; the mechanics of the company. My personal goal is to step out of both structures and be the guiding force that unites the two, balancing the wants and needs of both sides with a strategic vision for the future. As a volunteer community event coordinator and in my general adventures thru life, I occasionally happen across another person in need. Whether it's a car accident on the side of the hiway 20 miles from Nowhere, Montana, or a 105°F day in June at the charity run/walk around the lake (and EVERYWHERE in between), I'm the one who walks INTO the fire, a First Responder. It is a knowledge set intended entirely to support philanthropy and back me up in those instances when the unplanned and unexpected happens. in this part-time gig role with SaveALife, I help support various events as an EMS service provider, which helps me keep my knowledge and experience running. It's definitely a side job, some might even say a "hustle", or more like an on-again, off-again "paid volunteer" role. I also participate as a mentor to other students, and am working on becoming a state-certified psychomotor exam tester. I am currently licensed in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, Texas, and with the NREMT.

This youth-oriented, Asian-themed performance group specializes in traditional and contemporary music and dance. Young Performers delight audiences around the world. As a volunteer, I provided audio and technology support for performances, as well as other adult supervision and support in areas and events not suitable for the younger members (Such as running the demanding, fast-paced Japanese commercial kitchen at the Festival Of Nations events in Saint Paul). As is typical with my activities, most of my work was behind the scenes, allowing the younger members to “perform” in the public view and earn the applause they always received. I really enjoy being able to provide support behind the scenes, and take great reward in the success of a great performance, even if that’s just working in a kitchen!

Kept all the bells and whistles ringin' and singin', the green lights green and the orange lights off, in a mixed Tier 2+ environment. Coordinated with the building engineers and facilities department on the needs of I.T. to ensure that all the moves, adds, and changes kept going like a finely tuned clockwork. Took point on an emergent power failure to ensure that everything kept running and everyone was informed. Analyzed billing and payment history of co-location facilities to recover $250K+ in improper billing.Served as a bridge between facilities and technology, ensuring the data center lifecycle and strategic plans were compatible and coordinated in the facility as the company branched off from a parent to become a self-sustaining entity. Mentored and trained junior staff in multiple departments on the methods and reasoning inherent in the plans, ensuring the high-performing teams aligned for a rockstar facility.

Started out working in the field, fixing servers and networks, troubleshooting connections, and being that all around handy techie guy. Worked up thru office building network design, call centers, to data center design and implementation, and leading multiple teams across the country building, migrating, consolidating, and an decommissioning various data centers and corporate office systems. Bounced around the whole of the USA, visiting 46 states in the process, taking lots of photos and leaving behind footprints and lots of smiles and green lights.During this time, I worked on construction and integration of DCs around the USA, including eBay, Google, Amazon, Yahoo, MySpace, Edmunds, and eHarmony (amongst others). I've received compliments like "Dude, it's Neural." from C-Suite, Directors, and Operating Committee members, and have participated in corporate TV advertisements talking about DC updates and changes being made to better the company's offering. In one job, I orchestrated a complete tear down and rebuild of the DC network core, resulting in a significant improvement in airflow management, space & power management, reclaimed port capacity, and the visual presentation of the racks, all without a single second of outage or customer impact. My working style, love of teaching and mentoring, and ability to speak complex data center language in simple ways has regained customer confidence, saved (and renewed!) contracts, accelerated project timelines, solved intricate complex situations, reduced costs, and created a LOT of smiles.During my time in this role, I have learned some really unique skills, like hand-polishing fiber optic terminations. It's always fun to pull one of those obscure skills out of the toolbox and employ it in some other way. Sometimes I miss those hands-on activities, but hey, life goes onward and upward, and the knowledge and experience is not lost just because it's a relatively antiquated skill these days!

Orchestrated all the I.T. Operations for this Coal Methane gas well drilling operation and its subsidiary companies. Ensured well head monitoring systems and receiving towers operated efficiently and continuously, supporting 650 well heads in several states. Visited local drilling sites to install and maintain I.T. equipment on the rig and Tool Pusher's office. Reestablished I.T. practices and facilitated the recovery of a subsidiary company after the technology crash of 2000, bringing in new bid projects in state and local government and educational sectors. As part of the strategic partnerships, I also trained and mentored Native American and Woman-owned technology companies to support growth and provide experience for these up and coming organizations.

Travelling all over the country, I directed field operations installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining DWDM SONET systems up to 1.6Tbps, and all supporting systems. TDM, WDM, DWDM, Wavestar OLS 400G/800G/1.6T, and Lambda Router. As part of my responsibilities, I collected and assembled construction, integration, and test data into formats for customer presentation. I maintained a detailed map of locations to ensure all field engineers could quickly and accurately locate remote, sometimes very difficult to find locations. I made sure tests were completed successfully, often times babysitting test equipment to quickly respond to errors and issues. I quickly became known as an SME on several systems, and was called in to troubleshoot and repair advanced technical issues on multiple occasions. In most instances, I had the knowledge and advance preparation to anticipate and be ready for hardware and fiber line repair, saving weeks of down time and restoring projects that had fallen behind schedule. Running thru airports with short-duration connecting flights, lugging million dollar test gear thru security because shipping it wasn't fast enough, and hopping on last-minute red eyes was never "fun". Even that one time we got rear-ended and had to pry a $3MM piece of equipment out of the trunk thru the back seat! But the excitement of the job, being able to jump in and help colleagues right the lopsided projects, and watching those test sets go green was always worth the effort!

Space Camp, every kid's dream come true! I provided training and experience management for young astronauts, including education on the history of space travel, the US Space Program and other countries' programs, and more at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL back when the Saturn V was laying on its side. Guided curious young minds on a 3-day "Astrotrek" adventure of learning how to be an astronaut, from the feeling of walking on the moon, to full scale F14 Tomcat and Space Shuttle simulators, the gyroscope, and the "5DF" chair simulating a "space walk" outside the orbiter. Visited the "flat floor" with campers, and provided education and information on the International Space Station, with regular visits to the construction facility where the ISS was being built. This immersive camp experience included 3 days and 2 nights on property for the campers, and as a counselor the experience included 24 hour omnipotent care and management of 30-40 campers. Aside from the obvious elements above, activities and responsibilities included ensuring campers ate quality meals, exercised, and looked after personal hygiene, managing personal concerns like home sickness for young, first-time travellers, medical and emergency concerns, escorting to off-site facilities and activities, and everything else in a 3-day camp experience.I was also responsible for and had the unique experience of loading and unloading campers' luggage directly to/from commercial airliners at Huntsville International Airport, and learned how to balance the loads in the plane. This was always one of my favorite things to do, as it made all of my colleagues nervous to be out on the tarmac and up with (and IN) the planes in Penske and Ryder rental trucks handling hundreds of bags weekly, but was a great opportunity to instill confidence and keen senses of awareness and strict rule observance with composure and ease in my partners.

Got recognized multiple times by senior staff and “mystery shoppers” for excellence, positive attitude, and general knowledge of the park. Responsible for daily transportation of give-aways through and around the park property, asset management, fleet vehicle operation, and other aspects. Mingled with guests informally to ensure the park was operating at its best and any concerns or guest feedback was handled quickly and efficiently. In this energetic and very visible role, I always worked to ensure that guests coming in had their questions answered, and guests leaving were exhausted from a great day in the park. In one "flash mob" style moment, I lead about 500 guests singing Happy Birthday to my boss as she walked unsuspectingly by!
