It is an art and a science: the art of connections & conversations and the science of targets & numbers.My first glimpse of what it could be was ‘dialing for dollars’ in a telemarketing sweatshop located in a basement space in a somewhat seedy part of town. It was b2c so we called people at home, often at dinnertime and on weekends. The only thing that kept me going was the product I was selling- people I reached loved it and that got me hooked. Fast forward six month, the client was hiring and I was hired- my first glimpse at the contrast of insourcing vs. outsourcing.30+ years later I am still working in Telephone Sales. I’ve set up and run large telephone departments and small departments – and everything in between. In 2021, my former employee hired me to join her company, CallingWorks. I hired her into her first sales position and she has hired me into what might be my last. The work combines just about everything I have enjoyed in every position I have had with the added benefit of working with a talented and committed team- and getting the work done virtually.
