Tempest NeuCollins has an MFA in studio arts from the School of Visual Arts. After receiving her degree she spent years working as a teaching artist in NYC; she worked with numerous non-profits providing arts education to students in under-resourced communities. She also designed and implemented art programming to socially and emotionally support students in pull-out classrooms. Tempest eventually transitioned into teaching art full-time at a K-5 charter school in Brooklyn. In 2015 she founded, and currently runs, Doodles Academy. Doodles Academy empowers educators to offer their students a high-quality art curriculum, regardless of where or what they teach.Doodles is fueled by the belief that a high-quality art education needs to be a part of every child’s schooling. The proper art curriculum can support and enhance core subject areas, and can encourage broader thinking about the world and the people in it. Ultimately, art education helps students become creative, empathetic, and engaged adults. Doodles works toward these beliefs through the creation of impactful curricula that provides outlets for young learners to develop and express their individuality while expanding their knowledge of the world and the diverse group of people they share it with. Whenever possible, these curricular resources are offered virtually, for free or very low cost, on doodles-academy.org. Doodles also does work with partner schools and organizations to develop bespoke curriculum opportunities that carry a wide impact in regards to connecting students to quality art experiences.

Founder & Executive DirectorDoodles Academy Mar 2015 - Oct 2024United StatesDoodles Academy is an art education non-profit. Our mission is to expand children's access to high-quality arts education. We do this by supporting educators of all backgrounds through our free online curriculum, as well as through various, mission-aligned, projects done in partnership with other organizations. Our core curriculum is virtually available, and includes videos and demonstrations. The projects allow room for every child to tell her own story. We provide lessons that scaffold skills and ideas, challenging students to think complexly, but chunking it down so that they don't become overwhelmed. Whenever possible we connect to core subjects to build knowledge and context of the world. Discussion and exploration is built into each project, encouraging students to find their own creative solutions. -
ArtistTempest Neucollins Art Jun 1985 - PresentNew York City, NyI'm very interested in the twin notions of place and landscape, in particular how these ideas are rooted not only in the physical, but also in the less accessible recesses of memory. All my work begins with a place. I work from photographs that I shoot while on long walks through an intriguing area, thus building up a relationship and cache of memories that I can intuitively pull upon when making the art-works. My images are never physically accurate representations of a particular landscape; rather, they try to capture the fleeting cultural and personal memories and definitions of that place. They try to root themselves in the energy of a particular landscape.
