I have always been a staunch proponent of sentient rights, the most basic of which is to survive, free of intentionally or negligently-inflicted harm, and with hope of achieving self-actualization. That right transcends gender, race, beauty, culture, economic status, and all other social constructs. It transcends age, skin color, genital shape, and all other biological features not directly responsible for generating sentience through neuroanatomy and neurochemistry. For me, the advancement of medical research and the preservation of quality sentient life is a quest motivated by ethics and my own sense of justice. For, if we have the cognitive capacity to outsmart disease, then I believe we have the moral responsibility to do so. And I dare to believe that we do have that cognitive capacity.
