In this role, I will be managing a portfolio of research related to the economic growth and development in the San Diego region. Among other projects, I will be researching and developing reports on the proliferation of artificial intelligence and machine learning and it’s impact on the regional economy.

In this role, I served as an advisor on strategy, budget, and policy issues including city audits, economic development, and homelessness. In addition, I was the office lead for committees on Economic Development, Budget, and the COVID-19 Response and Recovery. I also interfaced with community groups and business leaders on issues related to city planning, development, business improvement, and local services.

In this role, conducted economic analysis with a focus on trade, international finance, and development as a summer work study. This bill corrected a long-standing funding inequity allowing ILC's to receive the minimum state base funding. This funding will allow the ILCs to cut down on backlogs, add additional services, and reach more clients.-AB 1420 (Preventing Pipeline Leaks & Protecting Public Health)In 2014, a gas pipeline leak in the City of Arvin affected the health of residents causing them to relocate. This bill was crafted to prevent future pipeline leaks and improve the process to notify residents and streamline emergency response procedures. In addition, the bill requires methods to be developed to regularly test and inspect pipelines near sensitive areas like schools and homes.-AB 603 (Statewide Turf Removal Tax Credit)Grass is one of the most water-intensive plants in landscaping. With ongoing drought conditions in mind, this bill sought to establish a state tax credit as an incentive to replace lawns with drought-resistant landscaping.-AB 326 (Connecting Victims of Abuse with Resources)This bill seeks to educate salon professionals about the signs of domestic abuse or sexual assault as well as how to support and connect their clients with the help and assistance they need to move out of an abusive relationship or situation. AB 326 would require the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, as part of the licensing process, to include a course about domestic violence and sexual assault awareness. Show less

This bill offered the Attorney General’s office an additional enforcement mechanism to protect access to health care services during hospital mergers and aquisitions.-SB 1273 (California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program) The California Low Cost Auto Insurance program offers affordable car insurance options to low-income Californians. This bill extended the program’s existence and made significant updates and improvements to increase participation and streamline services. In addition, the bill also allowed undocumented immigrants eligible for a drivers’ license under AB 60 (Alejo, 2013) to qualify for the low-cost program. Show less
