Have worked as an assistant to English teachers in Japan for over 5 years. I’ve met and worked with all kinds of people, from experienced teachers who have a clear image of the kind of lesson they want to do, to first time teachers that are still finding their footing, and even people in administrative positions asking to hold special English events for students and teachers alike.Working as an assistant language teacher (ALT) in a country completely opposite to my own, I’ve learned to be flexible and resilient yet patient with people and the culture here. My background as a Psychology has proven invaluable in moving to a new environment and maneuvering through everyday life. This position requires that I work well with not only Japanese teachers, but also other ALTs from different parts of the world. I’ve learned to be tolerant and open to different viewpoints, cultures, and personalities. This is a skill I am tremendously proud of.Moreover, my job as an ALT has been fun and rewarding. I love teaching the students here as much as I love learning from them and the other teachers too. I consider myself lucky to have such a fulfilling job as this one.At this point, I’m ready to for the next challenge in my life. I’d love for it to be in the education field, possibly as more than just an assistant. As long as I can continue to make a difference in other people’s lives for the better, I’ll be happy too.
