About Tera Bruinsma

Tera Bruinsma is a passionate independent filmmaker and visual artist native to Ottawa, Canada. She has spent the past seven years developing her craft while also expanding her academic career with a Bachelor of Combined Honours in Psychology and Sociology, Master of Arts in Sociocultural Anthropology, and a diploma in Film and Media Production. Tera also has a combined six years of Arts Administration experience through her professional development at various arts organizations in Ottawa. In both her academic and film projects, Tera uses storytelling techniques to explore the melding of identity, ethics, and aesthetics. Her approach to film is interactive and hands-on. She often takes part in all aspects of the film-making process to see her visions come to fruition. An academically trained director, cinematographer, and editor, Tera uses her creative insight to explore the darker side of life’s moral quandaries. Growing up watching the works of Wes Craven, Guillermo Del Toro, and Karyn Kusama, her aspirations are to one day work alongside cinema icons in the horror genre while also integrating anthropological ethnographic methods to blend the worlds of theory and visual mediums.
