About Tere Dawson (Nee Prado)
I'm passionate about consumer and community engagement in healthcare. I'm an experienced manager with a demonstrated history of project management and training in the health and community health sectors, including hospitals, community and primary health, aged care, disability services, mental health and AoD sectors, research institutions, NFP and condition-specific organisations across Australia. Some of my interest and skills are in the areas of Community Engagement and Community Development, Health Promotion, Training and adult learning, Qualitative Research, and Capacity Development. My academic career started in my birth country of Chile where I did undergraduate studies and field work in Anthropology and worked as a university lecturer and research assistant. In Chile I also completed a Masters in Sociology based on my ethnographic field work. After migrating to Australia I completed a PhD in Sociology and Anthropology at LaTrobe University and undertook a Postgraduate Placement Program at the Department of Health, followed by a Master of Public Health at Deakin university. I worked as a bilingual and bicultural research assistance in a 3-years NHMRC funded project about women’s health and after completion of this project I was awarded a 4-years NHMRC Postdoctoral Fellowship to continue comparative studies in women’s health and sexuality. I am an experienced trainer and hold a Cert IV in Training and Assessment from Swinburne University.
