Dr Terence Cassar is the Partner responsible for the IP, Data Protection, Technology, Media and Telecommunications practices at GTG.His areas of focus include Gaming & Betting Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, Software, Information Technology & Internet Law, Electronic Signatures, Fintech and Commercial Law.Dr Cassar advises on contentious and non-contentious aspects of IPRs, including IP deals, transactions, litigation, protection and registration, particularly in relation to copyrights, trademarks, patents, trade secrets and franchising.He is Counsel to numerous B2C and B2B Technology and Gaming companies including Blue-chip and listed companies, operators, suppliers, game developers, affiliates, payment providers, white labels and intermediaries advising the same on the whole gamut of Technology, IP, Gaming and Data Protection Laws.He is particularly known as having led multiple high-profile Mergers and Acquisitions particularly in the Gaming and Technology industries, as well as for having negotiated/advised on major software-related transactions and licensing deals.Dr Cassar has extensively advised on GDPR compliance, data sharing and processing, and on data protection litigation and the exercise of data subjects’ rights. He has a keen interest in disruptive technologies, particularly AI, IoT and Blockchain, and has also been involved in Fintech advisory.Dr Cassar is a frequent speaker and publisher within his areas of specialization and was recognized by Lexology as a “Legal Influencer” for EU Intellectual Property Law in 2019.Dr Cassar is a member of the International Association of Gaming Advisors (IAGA). He is also a Visiting Lecturer and Examiner at the University of Malta and sits on the Board of Directors of a number of Gaming, Technology and IP companies.Dr Cassar was admitted to the Maltese Bar in 2016 and holds a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta and an LLM in Internet Law & Policy from the University of Strathclyde.

Dr Terence Cassar is a Senior Associate at GTG and co-head of the firm's, technology, media and telecommunications, intellectual property, gaming and betting, data protection, e-commerce, Blockchain and cryptocurrencies practices.He holds a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta (Thesis on Patent Infringement) and an LLM in Internet Law & Policy from the University of Stratchlyde (Thesis on AI Regulation).Dr Cassar is a frequent speaker and publisher within his areas of specialization and was recognized by Lexology as EU Legal Influencer for Intellectual Property in 2019.Apart from his work at GTG Advocates, Dr Cassar is also an Examiner at the University of Malta and Lecturer in various fora on topics related to his areas of specialization.

I form part of Camilleri Preziosi’s Regulatory, EU & Litigation practice group and I practice primarily in the areas of intellectual property, remote gaming, data protection, media, telecoms and technology law.My focus is on advising on contentious and non-contentious aspects of copyright, trademark, patent laws and franchising as well as on advising gaming operators, affiliates, white labels and intermediaries on a wide variety of gaming related issues particularly on the acquisition of Malta gaming licenses, gaming disputes and player complaints. I also specialize on privacy, security and data protection in particular compliance obligations, data processing agreements and data transfers. Also involved in ancillary commercial and corporate law matters.

As a Legal Counsel at Europe Entertainment, I was primarily responsible for:- licensing and compliance;- drafting, negotiating, reviewing and managing contractual agreements;- advising on player complaints from a legal perspective;- advising Key Officials and directors on their day-to-day duties;- drafting and updating of end-user license agreements;- ensuring the company is in line with all regulatory obligations and reporting matters;- setting up of new subsidiaries and implementation of relevant business strategies; and- drafting internal policies and procedures and ensuring adherence with the same.

Previously a Legal Associate in Chetcuti Cauchi's IP, ICT & Gaming Department.During this time, I focused on Remote Gaming and Intellectual Property Law.In Remote Gaming, I was particularly active in Licensing requirements (particularly MGA, UKGC and Curacao), Compliance, Key Official & Directorship duties. In IP, I worked in the whole plethora of IP legal services, including, complex international services related to major IP transactions to IP prosecution, infringement and dispute settlement, contract drafting, registrations, licensing and IP portfolio management. I was also responsible for managing the IP Compliance Department which handles all IP recordals. In this role, I lead the day-to-day guidance and training of Officers and IP Advisors in all IP portfolio management aspects including on the registration, validation and renewal aspectsI was also very active in the Tech Law and Digital Gaming industries and on corporate matters including mergers and acquisitions and setting up of companies “from ground up”.
