I began helping recruit adoptive families for teens in 1977. The average age of the kids we placed is over 11. The experts said it couldn't be done. They still say that- some of them. Due to that myth, a lot of kids age out of Foster Care every year. No one does it alone of course- it's not exactly as easy as falling off a log, but the point is the families are there- everywhere. The Children NEED Parents Campaign is an attempt to let the public know this. Yes, it's an opinion but so is the countervailing opinion. It comes down to being an assessment of 'the market'. And when it comes right down to it, we need less than 1 in 100 families to come forward and all the kids will be claimed. Many in the public don't know there are 1,000,000+ kids in this country raising themselves- displaced from family. And currently there are too many people who think there is nothing that can be done about it- it's a problem we just have to live with, Well, the Campaign says that's not true- there are plenty of things that can be done and All the kids can go home. We need to make that happen- for their sake and ours.
