"To make a positive impact" - that's what I wrote as my personal purpose statement when I was in my twenties. I still subscribe to it and use it to guide my decisions and actions. My purpose statement led me through 13 years with the Singapore Navy where I honed my skills in strategy, operational planning and execution, and communication. It also guided me in the subsequent 14 years as a co-founder of a strategic communications consultancy and regional CEO of a global people and organisation development organisation. Volunteering as a leader in numerous organisations over the last two decades allowed me to live out my purpose statement, particularly in advancing causes in education, economic empowerment, poverty alleviation, community-building and life-saving.I now choose to leverage my expertise across the domains of strategy, business development, communication, people and organisation development and my past experiences working for, with, and alongside leaders in the people, public and private sectors and channel my energy into advancing the cause of Singapore Institute of Directors - to uplift the directorship profession and champion good governance in organisations in Singapore.Making a positive impact on something this big and meaningful require the help and participation of many. While I have an excellent Executive Team I am leading and the strong guidance and support from members of the Governing Council and various Board Committees, I still need resources and connections of individuals and organisations, especially those who share a similar view that for organisations and Singapore to thrive, we need good directors who practise and champion good governance. So ask me about ways you can do pro bono work for our nonprofit organisation or extend your personal, professional or company’s resources and connections so that collectively, we can make a positive impact on the apex level of influence of organisations big and small, so that they may in turn make a positive impact on lives and livelihoods in Singapore and beyond.
