I established Seaport Consultants Canada Inc. in 1994 as a management consultancy that specializes in the port and shipping sectors. As our work load grew, we brought in affiliated companies to add to our scale and diversity of skills and formed the Seaport Group, an association of independent consulting companies that now provide maritime consulting services from the USA and Asia as well as Canada. Our early achievements include maritime support for the initial privatization of Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (now known as Vale S.A.), litigation support for a complex container terminal case in California, and identifying a pending container terminal concession in Africa, bringing it to the attention of an international terminal operator and helping them win it. In more recent years, we have been involved in the development of container terminal concessions and port and terminal asset acquisitions. In working with our Seaport Group affiliates, we were involved in preparing a national port masterplan for Indonesia and a port sector strategy for Malaysia. In the last few years, we assisted the Port of Vancouver with its Container Capacity Improvement Program and some components of it. I am a maritime economist and management consultant (CMC) with over 40 years of experience in the evaluation of port and other transport projects. My general areas of competence are port privatizations and concessions, port traffic forecasts and market assessments, tariff studies, economic and financial evaluations, port feasibility studies and master plans. I have managed multidisciplinary port projects and served on the teams of program managers of large, complex and multifaceted port sector projects. I have conducted projects in North America, East Asia, South-East Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean, the Pacific islands, Latin America and Africa, several funded by the international development banks.Basic Contact InformationEmail: tsmyth@seaport.caTel: +1 604 732 8255
