Teresa Gleadowe is a curator, writer and editor with extensive experience in the contemporary visual arts in the UK and internationally. From 1977 to 1989 she worked as an Exhibition Officer and then as Assistant Director of the Visual Arts Department of the British Council. In 1989 she was appointed Head of Information at the Tate Gallery (now Tate Britain). In 1992 she joined the academic staff of the Royal College of Art to develop the first UK-based MA in curating, jointly initiated by the Royal College of Art and the Arts Council. She directed this two-year, full-time programme, Curating Contemporary Art, for fourteen years until the summer of 2006, when she left the college to work freelance.From 2006 to 2010 she was Research Consultant and Series Editor for the Exhibition Histories book series published by Afterall. She has also taught on curatorial programmes at California College of the Arts, San Francisco; de Appel, Amsterdam; the London Consortium MA Film Curating; the MA Curating at Chelsea College of Art and Design; and on the Curatorial Intensive run by Independent Curators International in New York in July 2011. She advised on the development of curating programmes at the Courtauld Institute, University of East London and Norwich University College of the Arts. She was a Research Fellow for the Visual Arts Department at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and advised on two conferences for the Banff International Curatorial Institute.She initiated The Falmouth Convention held at University College Falmouth in 2010 and The Penzance Convention held at Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange in 2012 and has developed the ongoing series of Cornwall Workshops held at Kestle Barton on the Lizard peninsula since 2011. In 2012, she founded CAST (the Cornubian Arts & Science Trust), based in Helston. She was the Director of Groundwork, a three year project developed in partnership with Tate St Ives, Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange and Kestle Barton, with funding from Arts Council England's Ambition for Excellence scheme, and from Freelands Foundation, Ampersand Foundation and Cornwall Council.

It aims to promote participation, appreciation and learning in the visual arts and to encourage interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration across the arts and sciences. It is committed to the pursuit of excellence.CAST works with artists, curators, writers and specialists from other fields, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, to develop professional expertise and exchange, to present examples of outstanding creative practice, and to create opportunities for audiences of all ages to experience groundbreaking cultural activity.CAST has developed out of a series of contemporary art events organised in Cornwall over the last four years — The Falmouth Convention (May 2010) and The Penzance Convention (May 2012) — and two residential workshops held at Kestle Barton on the Lizard peninsula — The Cornwall Workshop 2011 (led by Mark Dion and Lori Waxman) and The Cornwall Workshop 2013 (led by Simon Starling, Hamish Fulton and Ellen De Wachter). A third Cornwall Workshop was held in March 2016, led by the filmmaker Ben Rivers with the artists moving image agency, LUX.CAST is based in Helston, in the former School of Science and Art given to the town by the philanthropist John Passmore Edwards in 1897. With partners Tate St Ives, Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange and Kestle Barton, CAST has recently won an Ambition for Excellence award from Arts Council England, to deliver the Groundwork programme, which will culminate in a visual arts festival in West Cornwall in 2018.
