I have been a special educator, educational specialist, educational consultant, team leader, teacher leader, gifted and talented teacher, inclusion specialist, co-teacher at a comprehensive high school level at the sophomore and freshman levels in English, a Resource Specialist at the high school level for five years. Was an instructor for UC Berkeley in the Reading Certificate program for three semesters based on the Science of Reading for adults wanting to obtain competencies in literacy and received a UC sanctioned certificate. Further, I have been an Educational Consultant and Literacy Consultant since 1997 providing professional staff development to states across the country to their administrative personnel, literacy teams, coaches, teachers, support personnel and English Language Learner personnel. PSD content has included but not limited to Reading Academy, Elementary Reading Academy, Adolescent Reading Academy, Reading Fundamentals, Decoding Instruction for Adolescents, Close Reading (Elementary and Secondary), Conventions in Writing, Argumentative and Opinion Writing (Elementary and Secondary),RtI and Content Area for Adolescent learners. Further in this capacity I have conducted model lessons, observations, targeted professional staff development to general education and special education teams, and assisted with curriculum design and the development of effective literacy plans, both short and long term for districts, sites and classrooms. I also was part of my district's assessment team for four years assisting with the design and implementation of effective assessment tools and practices, both Formative and Summative, common assessments to guide with the development of effective instructional practices at the district, site and classroom level in order to be aligned with the CCSS and/or well-articulated state standards. Further, I was part of a team that developed a K-12 Writing Assessment, a 6-Traits Trainer, provided PD K-8 in literacy based on 'best practices' in literacy based on the Science of Reading, a mentor coach for teachers new to the district and new to a grade level (K-2, 3-5, 6-8), served as administrator in charge for summer school programs and provided PD.Employed in the private sector as an Executive Editor for Leap Frog School House, educational division. Conducted literacy trials in Central London in conjunction with the University of London, and initiated ongoing professional staff development for teachers from England and Scotland. Private practice with services to Dyslexic students with active IEP's.
