Teresa Gallicchio Email and Phone Number
My career goal has grown from my childhood hobbies: reading extensively everything that was within my reach, trying to deepen my knowledge of what was around me by being open to new scenarios. What I really loved was reading books about people and places who were so different from me, but at the same time so inspiring and refreshing. This childhood passion led me to my learning path, centred on foreign languages and cultures. At first, it was the study of ancient Latin and Greek during my high school years, that gave me the not only possible to better understand my own culture and language, but also instilled in my young mind the idea that I wanted to translate pieces of foreign literature so that everyone could read them. And after receiving the high school diploma, I took the decision of continuing studying languages at the university, but this time I chose English and Japanese. Japanese was the only decision I could make since my growing passion for anything related to Japan and its pop culture related to manga was never-ending. During my studies at the University of Bologna, my will to become a translator became stronger, thanks to the Japanese and English literature classes that I took and greatly impressed me. After my bachelor's degree in English Literature, I made another crucial decision: continuing studying Japanese during my master's degree at Ca' Foscari University and applying to the Overseas Programme in order to study in Japan. I eventually studied at Waseda University in Tokyo for 6 months, an amazing opportunity that gave me a deeper knowledge of Japan and its language and culture. Now I am a freshly Master's degree graduated, who continues studying at Sapienza University in order to become a professional translator. I am determined to make happy that little child who loved books by becoming a translator of contemporary Japanese novels and manga, the same manga that I devoured during my teenage years.
