Oversee the education and training of students with physical, emotional, mental, and learning disabilities. Design and deliver lessons geared towards the individual needs and capabilities of students under supervision. Collaborate with other classroom teachers, school psychologists, learning disabilities specialists, speech/hearing specialists, and school social workers to provide an integrated plan for developing the capacities of students. Set learning goals for each student, assess their progress, and record their evaluations. Update parents on the progress of their student and enlist parental support with behavior control and home activities designed to supplement classroom lessons. Supervise and train teaching assistants. Help plan for the transition of students to productive lives after the completion of their secondary education.

Teach and train clients and families in activities of daily living, in both group and individual settings. Connect clients and families with community support systems as determined to be appropriate and maintain regular communications with schools and other family service providers that the client and their family are involved with or receiving services from. Provide telephone and on-site crisis intervention/prevention and follow-up with clients and their families.
