Work hard, learn the business and keep learning and growing was the work ethic that led my early journey into the corporate world. My early plans were to stay on the corporate track, utilize my Honours Bachelor of Commerce and continue to find opportunities to be a value-add contributor. The popular quote, “What we plan for ourselves isn’t always what life has planned for us” held true for my “plan.” While success in corporate roles brought me to the senior management level, life events gave me the opportunity to reevaluate my direction. I went on a great blind date -- married a great guy, continued to flourish in my career, and went on to have four kids in two and a half years (yes, you read that right!). I had a deep desire to be both an active co-parent and excel at my job in a meaningful way. There was a disruption in the organization I worked with, and I was a given a generous disbursement as I was thanked for my services that were no longer needed. My children were aged four to six at the time -- it was a wonderful opportunity to reexamine how I wanted to contribute to the world around me.To provide more opportunities in my career track (I wasn’t certain what those might be at the time), I’ve always known that learning and building skills will broaden your opportunities. So, I started loading my learning bucket with adult education certification, premier psychometric assessments, partnerships with leadership development and research organizations, and an accredited Executive Coaching program.Along with my focused learning path I added three questions: • Where are the gaps in leadership development?• What’s holding back high performance on teams and within individuals? • How can I be more valuable in those fields?I have not stopped learning, observing, and gleaning the differentiators. What has brought the value-add is sharing my knowledge and expertise with leaders, teams, and organizations. My journey as an independent executive coach and consultant has been inspiring, gratifying, and abundant.I have recently joined the 80-20 Excellerate Executive Readiness team as a Cofounder and Excellerate Coach. The program is designed to help anyone get out of their own way, develop their potential, and make a positive and sustainable impact.
