As a YMHFA instructor, I teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in a crisis. YMHFA is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. YMHFA introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.Just as CPR help assist a person having a heart attack-YMHFA helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health related crisis.

I am the parent of a child with emotional or behavioral disorders, or other special needs who has specific training in providing information, training, support and advocacy to families as they navigate the various systems and supports serving their child. As a Parent Peer Specialist I provide outreach, information and training to schools, local governments, service providers and community organizations.

As the Pulaski Community Middle School PBIS Coordinator/Paraprofessional, I monitor PBIS implementation and effectiveness while building positive relationships with students. I develop and implement lesson plans and behavioral expectations as well as assess and train staff and youngsters on PBIS –behavioral expectations. Integrate Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) into PBIS and daily practices. Collect data and prepare reports for decision making purposes on a monthly basis. Attend trainings, conferences and meetings as needed.
