I have worked in within the Office of Financial and Scholarships for over two years and have held various positions with different degrees of responsibility. While I worked in the department, my focus was always on providing the absolute best customer service possible. I helped students complete their applications to receive financial aid, as well as making sure that they understood what federal financial aid is. I frequently utilized my analytical thinking skills to investigate issues that students had, such as their application not coming through or solving errors that occurred during the process of applying. For a brief time, I organized and conducted workshops to assist students with the financial aid process and with their student centers. Afterwords, I was placed back in the front line as the lead work-study. This allowed me to develop my leaderships skills through deciding how to delegate responsibilities and become more involved in the training of new workers.

I helped customers check on the status of their accounts and their items. While performing my cashier duties, I made sure the customer always left satisfied. Part of my duties also included making sure the store was always kept clean and organized. In this position, I had several tasks that needed to be done during my shift aside from helping customers. This required me to develop good time management skills to make sure my tasks were done at the end of the day. I had to consign items and help new customers understand how consignment works. I also entered and priced merchandise into our system and made sure to put it out on the sales floor. I almost always worked nights, so my responsibilities as key holder included closing the registers, completing the end of day sales report, and making sure the store was ready for the next day.

I worked at North Canyon High School and, briefly, at Greenway Middle School. My goal was to make sure that students participated in the tutorial sessions and left with a better understanding of the subjects that they were struggling with. I tutored in groups of 3 to 7 students. I helped students seek answers to their questions by coaching them through higher level questions that developed their critical thinking skills. I graded the students based on note taking, collaboration, preparedness, and organizational skills. I also worked closely with teachers to address student difficulties and development. As an AVID tutor attending college, I helped mentor students on college preparedness and developed a trusting bond between the groups of students and myself.
