Lately I have been asked, what my job is, this is what I believe my job is (has grown to be)My job is to translate User to Tech and Tech to User.In doing that I find that I have learned a massive amount about our business. I have worked for Tree Top, Inc. for more than 30 years starting with being a clerk managing inventory. I have taken any opportunity to learn what is done in each area of the business, when I found myself in Information Services, I was surprised. Not at all where I thought I would end up, but I have taught the technical people some of the business and taught the business some technical things.I facilitate many conversations getting cross-functional teams together to discuss, streamlining of processes, issues with software, and sometimes just helping them move tasks forward.A newer role is one of Manager for me, I have been a leader but without any direct reports for most of my career, manager is a new challenge. I am working on building a very open and highly effective team. When there is a challenge we are not sure how to solve, we get into a room and solve it together, makes for great Cross Training opportunities. My goal with my technical team is to work on the user communication skills they need to be business literate within our company.
