Benedictine University

Working at the Summer Fun Day Camp at Benedictine offered the experience of working with students from the grades of kindergarten to eighth grade. Starting out, I was a camp counselor who was able to work in every single age group, leading the students in many different games and activities. During the last week of camp, I was promoted to activities coordinator, so I was able to plan and put together the camp talent show.

Building a community of learners on a daily basis in a 5th grade classroom, I was able to effectively plan, instruct, and assess students to enhance their learning and facilitate a hands-on, student-centered learning environment while also keeping an open communication with the students and their parents. Finding ways to actively engage students from many different backgrounds, I was able to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all my students throughout the school day as well as during math and reading intervention and the new science curriculum that I piloted. While student teaching, I was also able to help proctor Performance Series, PARCC, and learned how to use the ISEL and Fountas and Pinnell testing. Throughout this experience, I collaborated with other faculty and staff from the district through bi-weekly PLC meetings, institute days and all six student teacher cohort sessions.

As the hostess, the job was to seat restaurant guests, answer phone calls, and place to-go orders. As the waitress, the job was to cater to the needs of the restaurant guests, place their orders and clean the restaurant at the end of the night.
