Education executive with a passion for travel, art, culture, football, family, and fun!My StoryAs a lover of language and history, I found my dream job when I landed a role as "Social Studies Editor" for Steck Vaughn in 2000. Little did I know that job would launch a career that has challenged and rewarded me ever since. My role quickly expanded both in level of responsibility and content areas. I came to enjoy leading teams and found success collaborating across departments. I developed a fierce curiosity for how children learn to read and how to develop inquiry-based curricula, propelling me to the role of Editor-in-Chief by 2010.Looking for new avenues to apply what I'd learned in educational publishing, I made a dramatic move in 2010. I left my home state of Texas and the publishing giant HMH for Staff Development for Educators (SDE), a small professional development company in Peterborough, New Hampshire. The move surpassed my expectations professionally and personally. A smaller company afforded me the opportunity to dive deeper into different departments, learning how all facets of the business work together for success. It's this exposure and application of knowledge that prepared me to serve as President of SDE from 2012 to 2016. In this role, I partnered with educators to create extraordinary classrooms engineered for both teacher and student success through in-school training, large- and small-scale public events, online courses, and classroom resources.In 2016, I am taking my first steps into the non-profit world, serving as the Chief Education Officer of the Van Andel Education Institute. In this role I'll be helping to improve K12 science and inquiry-based instruction across the country. I look forward to creating classrooms where curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking thrive.
