Core responsibilities included preparing the company for overseas deployment through the use of intense training of primary MOS skill sets as well as cross training. Coordinating with the Air Force to provide aircraft to train company personnel in aircraft loading procedures for battalion deployments. Insuring all company personnel possessed a high state of physical stamina and endurance with a rigorous physical training program.

Detailed as the battalion commander's principal staff officer for personnel support. Job function included establishment of battalion-unique personnel policies and procedures. Directing the battalion's functions within the critical personnel systems: personnel readiness management, personnel accounting and strength reporting, casualty operations management, replacement operations management, personnel information management, postal operations management, and MWR/community support.

Heidelberg, West Germany

Primary duties included being a command briefer for the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence.Briefings covered the threat posed by all Sovet Groups of Forces facing NATO. Audiences included senior NATO flag officers as well as members of allied war colleges. Additional duties included providing the Deputy Commanding General expertise and guidance on the conduct of border operations. Visually monitored Soviet armor tactics at the battalion and company level and provided analysis and intelligence to USAREUR maneuver units.

Schwabach, West Germany

S-2 of 1st Armored Division's divisional cavalry squadron charged with providing reconnnaissance and surveillance of 115 kilometers of the Czech-West German Border. Functioned under the operational control of the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Officer in charge of an 80 man border camp detachment with reconnaissance, armor and intelligence and surveillance assets. Conducted joint patrols with the German Federal Border Police (Bundesgrenzschutz) and coordinated with US Border Resident Offices (BRO) for local and cross border intelligence activities. Prepared the squadron to execute the Division's General Defense Plan (GDP) as a covering force in the event of hostilities. Conducted intelligence training for a 600 man squadron, with particular emphasis on the scout elements which included running scout proficiency courses at Grafenwohr Training Area and the General Defense Position (GDP) sectors..

Zirndorf, West Germany

Serves as the S-2/ Counterbattery Intelligence Officer in a nuclear capable 155mm self-propelled gun battalion. Charged with maintaining the nuclear surety program and the Nuclear Release Authenication Sytem (NRAS) and the attendant training. The NRAS system required that the safe holding nuclear release codes be opened, then the specific punch card codes had to be broken, then the subordinate units informed of the specific order of how many weapons were to be released, what combination was to be used to remove the permissive action links (PAL) from the rounds so they could be fired, and what yields were to be configured. Additionally charged with counterbattery operations with the AN/TPQ-36 Counterbattery/Counter Mortar Radar.
