Dr. Meyer is a Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering and holds a courtesy appointment in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University. He teaches courses in thermodynamics, combustion, and engines, and he conducts research in laser-based diagnostics, spectroscopy, and X-ray imaging of multiphase and reacting flows for power, propulsion, and energy systems. He completed his doctoral work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2000, served as a contract research scientist at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) until 2006, and held assistant/associate professor positions at Iowa State University until 2015. He also held the position of visiting professor at Erlangen University in Germany and he works closely with collaborators at the AFRL, NASA, ARL, DOE, NRL, DTRA, private research firm Spectral Energies, LLC, industrial collaborators, and faculty at a number of universities. He is a Fellow of Optica and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, he is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and he is a member of the Combustion Institute and the American Physical Society.
