PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:Early in my career in financial services I was confronted with challenges that advanced my problem-solving and critical thinking talents. After a successful and difficult turnaround in my first role running a business in Bangkok, I was asked to lead both growth and turnaround businesses requiring sell-offs and significant restructuring. Assignments included Financial Institutions head for Europe, Country Manager for Spain & Portugal, and Division Head for Africa, Middle East and South Asia.KEY SUCCESS FACTORS:Strategic thinking and strong people insights have been the keys to my success, regardless of the business. Given the truly extraordinary problems I encountered running a business in Bangkok, I developed a strong belief that there is no problem that can't be solved with the right mindset. Having worked in a bank that went through a prolonged crisis, it also became clear to me that something more than experienced individuals with high IQs was needed for success. I wanted to understand more about people and organizational dynamics, so I left the bank to pursue an Ed.M in Counseling Psychology--the study of normal people with normal problems. After a brief period as a volunteer Staff Therapist for the Archdiocese of New York, I returned to the business world with a renewed developmental focus. PERSONAL INTERESTS AND OBJECTIVES:I am an avid tennis player who is still learning, and am passionate about education and the importance of personal growth. My interests have expanded from literature and history to philosophy, psychology and a fascination with quantum physics Every experience, whether banking, psychotherapy, tennis or running my own business, has taught me much about life, myself, and other people. PresidentContinental Bank International, Ny 1988 - 1991Primary mission was to return this operating subsidiary to profitability. Significantly down-sized what had been the unit's primary business and invested in a new intermediation business that leveraged relationships with foreign financial institutions in developed countries and a strong Latin American origination capability. Within 3 years, this unit produced the highest ROE in the organization.
