Thompson has nearly two decades of progressively responsible experience in public and nonprofit Parks and Recreation, spanning three states (SC, NC, WI). His experience includes overseeing recreation programming and facilities, operating and capital improvement budgets, contracts and agreements, and policy and staff development.Thompson is the Community Services Manager (CSM) for the City of Madison, Parks Division. As the CSM, Thompson serves on the Parks Executive Team, overseeing the division's community services, with responsibilities for activating the City's 280 parks, ensuring parks are programmed, and promoting health and wellness, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and safety while creating a sense of belonging. His primary responsibilities include managing 23 full-time and 150 seasonal employees through 4 subordinate supervisors, overseeing the Warner Park Community Recreation Center and Goodman Pool, aquatics program and 12 public beaches, Park Rangers, winter ice skate and ski rental operations, park shelter and athletic field reservations, special event permitting, administrative customer services, Parks Alive, and volunteers, and overseeing the legislative processes for the Facilities, Programs, and Fees Subcommittee. Lastly, Thompson created and leads the Parks Equity Team and oversees the implementation of the division's Equity Action Plan.In 2019, Thompson's unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion was recognized with the Alix Olson Award from the City of Madison Department of Civil Rights and the High Impact Award from the Northside Planning Council. His efforts ensured that the Warner Park Community Recreation Center became a beacon of acceptance, equality, and connection for people of all ages, races, and cultural backgrounds.During his tenure with the City of Madison, Parks Division, Thompson's subordinate staff have been recognized 10 times through individual and team recognitions for going above and beyond the call of duty.Thompson also owns and operates a DJ business in his free time and is a member of the Madison Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity incorporated.

Warner Park Facility Manager

Warner Park Community Recreation Center (WPCRC) is a beautiful, 32,000 sq. ft. multipurpose facility located on Madison's northeast side. Established on September 19, 1999, the WPCRC is the only publicly owned recreation center in Madison and is a vital asset to the Parks Division. The WPCRC is a first-class, state-of-the-art facility with a diverse array of amenities, including a gymnasium, fitness center, art and pottery room, meeting room, childcare room, game room, three community rooms, and a commercial kitchen. The WPCRC has tenant agency contracts with Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) and New Bridge to provide various recreational, educational, and cultural programs and services. The WPCRC provides in-house programming to supplement the programming offered by MSCR and New Bridge. In 2019, the WPCRC launched the Kids Need Opportunities at Warner (KNOW) program in partnership with the Madison Parks Foundation to provide meaningful opportunities for underserved teens and families to engage in free or low-cost programming at the WPCRC. The KNOW program consists of Family Fun Night, Teen Night, and the Spring Break-A-Away 3ON3 Basketball Tournament Series. Primary responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, personnel, programs and collaborations, facility rentals and facility maintenance, customer and custodial services, operating budget and capital improvement plan, contracts and agreements, and legislative processes of the Warner Park Advisory Subcommittee. Additionally, I represent the Parks Division on the following committees:• Warner Park Advisory Subcommittee • Parks Racial Equity Change Team (Lead)• Brentwood/Northport Neighborhood Resource Team (Co-Lead)• RESJI Core Team • RESJI Tools & Training Action Team• Mendota Community Schools Board• Government Alliance on Race & Equity (GARE)
