Terri Hamm is the owner of Kindred Stories, a bookstore currently located in Third Ward, Houston, TX, committed to amplifying the voices of Black authors and artisans. Through Kindred Stories, Terri hopes to create a community-centered hub where the works of Black authors and artisans are accessible and celebrated. This venture was inspired by Terri's daughter Elle, who is an avid reader craving a space in Houston to explore the vast array of works written by Black voices. Terri is a graduate of Howard University and began teaching in New Orleans shortly after leaving Washington, DC. As her family grew, following a move to Houston and then to Singapore, Terri became a stay-at-home mom for five years, when she committed herself to volunteering in various capacities at her kids’ schools and in the community. She is passionate about creating safer spaces for the celebration of Black culture. Terri currently serves on Project Row Houses board of directors, the advisory board of Inprint, and is an avid reader and arts patron.
