I am responsible for the daily administration of the HIPAA Privacy standards for The University of Kansas Health System. I investigate and potentially mitigate issues related to maintaining the privacy of our patients and their healthcare information. This involves working with our internal and external team members to implement processes that meet the standards set forth by Federal and State regulations. I am involved in developing and presenting training on privacy related topics for the organization to ensure that all employees have a clear understanding of the fundamental importance confidentiality plays in the healthcare field.

Responsibilitites included abstract coding from operative reports to determine the appropriate CPT code to be submitted for reimbursement purposes. Position required a significant amount of research and continuing education in order to remain current on federal regulations related to healthcare documentation and billing.
