As a football development officer, my role is to liaise with sporting partners such as the Dorset FA and schools in the Dorset area to provide them with support and volunteers for their football eventsA recent example of this was when I worked with the Dorset FA to help them run a girl’s football festival in October which saw around 320 girls from primary and secondary schools get involved in small sided games, skills builders and referee workshops which complimented the recent Gameplan for Growth initiative.

At Rock Reef I am responsible for leading public sessions as well as children’s parties which require me to work with customers of all ages, meaning I must use various forms of verbal communication depending on who I am instructing. Health and safety is an imperative part of this job, so I need to ensure that I am clear and thorough when delivering briefings to maintain safety at work standards to keep the public safe from injury. I often assist customers in distress from heights and so empathize with them to keep them calm whilst remaining positive myself and reacting quickly to the situation.

Once a week I volunteer to assist coach Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) students in sabre fencing. This is part of the AUB initiative 'Give it a Go' which was set up to encourage arts students to participate in more sporting activities

During my summer and Easter breaks I work as a fencing activity instructor in which my role is to teach beginner fencing skills to children aged 4-14. For this I have to adapt my sessions accordingly to accommodate to each age group, for example with the younger groups, the session will be based more on games and fun whereas with the older groups I will focus more on technique and tactics and building their skill sets further. As well as fencing, I also was a group leader who's role is to stay with a designated age group for the day and lead various sports sessions with them. This included running, rugby, lacrosse, hockey, netball, dodge ball, crocker, cricket, powerball, goalball and basketball sessions. As well as ensuring that the needs of the children were met in terms of safety and cleanliness.

During my first year of university I was a RELAYS ambassador in which my role was to volunteer at various sporting events throughout the year
