· I interned with BPD Designs. Through the course of my internship with them I became familiar with data collection techniques and processes in Spatial Factory; I captured house facades, trees and other important features.
Geospatial Analyst Intern
I participated in updating and imputing missing information into Mesa Community College’s campus wide CAD files. This included generating new shapefiles and datasets when necessary. After the CAD file assessment and revisions in 2015, I began a new project to digitize the campus sidewalks in order to build a network analysis. The purpose of this project was to merge the CAD files and the network analysis together to help students be able to find their way to class more efficiently and to help the school run more effectively. At the time of these projects, the school was planning on publishing the results online and they were discussing developing a smart phone application for student use
Geospatial Analyst Intern
In 2015, I was active in evaluating, streamlining, and implementing a new geodatabase for Arizona biologist, Andrew Holycross. Our team also updated and assisted Mr. Holycross in simplifying and strengthening his data capturing system. For this project we had to evaluate his current geodatabase structure and asses all of the Arizona snake data that he had collected so far. We updated and preformed data conversions for some of the records and researched the data and documents given to ensure their accuracy. Our changes allowed Mr. Holycross to eliminate errors and data redundancy. Mr. Holycross and his team are now able to conduct more accelerated and more accurate analysis going forward. Personally, in addition to the data management duties, I mapped and researched five different Arizona snake species.
Geospatial Engineer
· My primary duty was the creation and management of data to build various maps, ranging in scope from county orientations, provincial overviews, city imagery, down to drivers’ sized navigational maps. I utilized many different analysis techniques, from more than one GIS software, to create line of sight, route analysis, target range, suitability and other defense map products. · In Iraq, I managed the night operations for our shop as a junior enlisted soldier, as well as my assigned 24 hour operations. I spoke to customers and managed the request for information and product logs. Among these duties were map distribution and supply management. · Upon my return I took a management position that included overseeing three junior enlisted soldiers in addition to becoming the lead data manager for our shop. I was offered a promotion just prior to leaving the Army to pursue furthering my education. I left the Army under honorable discharge and held a Top secret clearance kept without issue during time in service.
Citizen Scientist
· In an internship with the City of Portland, I conducted biodiversity surveys and mapped 2 different invasive species in Forest Park.· On a separate project I mapped riparian zones to track and monitor change over time. I discontinued my participation in these opportunities in the summer of 2007 when I enlisted into the United States Army
